Women’s Basketball in Sydney

Looking for an organised women’s basketball competition in Sydney? Our Sunday league at Glebe offers a regular game for adult teams, with divisions for different levels of experience. Bring your own team or use our Team & Player Finder to connect with teams looking for players.

Where to play: Glebe on Sundays

The women’s competition is played at Sydney Secondary College Blackwattle Bay Campus, on the corner of Taylor Street and Bridge Road, Glebe. Visit the Glebe competition page for venue information and the current Sunday competition listing.

That page also contains men’s competitions at Glebe and Broadway. For women’s basketball, choose the Glebe Women’s Sunday listing at Blackwattle Bay.

Choose a suitable playing standard

The Glebe women’s competition has three divisions: Grade 2, Grade 3 and Grade 4/5:

  • Grade 2: experienced to intermediate teams seeking a competitive game.
  • Grade 3: intermediate and developing teams, often with a mixture of playing experience.
  • Grade 4/5: suited to developing, lower-grade and newer social teams, including players building confidence or returning after a break.

Consider the experience of the whole team when choosing a grade. The competition uses a grading game to help determine divisions. Let us know your preferred standard, but placement in a particular division cannot be guaranteed. Check the current competition and grade guide before nominating, as divisions may change between seasons.

What to expect on game day

Women’s games have two fully timed 15-minute halves. The clock stops on all whistles, so a game generally takes around 45–55 minutes to complete.

SSB organises and manages the competition. We aim to provide two referees and a dedicated bench staff member for every game. Your team is never expected to do bench duty.

Points, rebounds, steals, assists and blocks are recorded and uploaded to each player’s online profile. All players must be at least 18 and have an active Annual Player Registration. The Glebe page also links to the Code of Conduct and the men’s and women’s competition bylaws.

Enter a women’s team

Gather friends, colleagues or players you already know, then complete Team Registration for Glebe Women’s Sunday. Tell us about your team’s playing experience and preferred grade.

Use the Locations page to check the latest season information and whether nominations are for an available place or a waitlist. A waitlist nomination does not guarantee entry.

Join as an individual player

You do not need to organise a whole team to start looking. Visit the Team & Player Finder to browse teams seeking players and use the player listing options. Include your experience, preferred competition and availability so teams can judge whether you are a good fit.

Team places depend on what captains need and are not guaranteed. If you would like guidance on joining the women’s competition, contact us.
